The Sinfonietta is an all-women and majority women-of-color orchestra and production company renowned for its diverse and innovative creative direction and dedication to musical excellence.
Divisions of the company include: the Sinfonietta flagship orchestras (The NY-based Broadway Sinfonietta & the LA-based Hollywood Sinfonietta), Sinfonietta Productions, and Sinfonietta Creative Management.
The Sinfonietta’s inaugural NYC-based orchestra, The Broadway Sinfonietta, was founded in 2020 by Egyptian-American Orchestrator & Music Supervisor Macy Schmidt (who was recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for her work with the Sinfonietta). Since teaming up with industry veteran Colleen McCormack to grow the company, the orchestra has performed with pop stars (such as Renée Rapp, Brandyand Jordin Sparks), in concert for feature films and live score events (such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Cowboy Bebop), and even onstage as featured soloists for the opening number of the 2023 Tony Awards. The company’s newest addition to its flagship ensembles, the LA-based Hollywood Sinfonietta, launched in late 2023, partnering with Sony Pictures on two live score premieres of feature films.
The Sinfonietta’s international footprint is rapidly growing, performing most recently in Abu Dhabi with an all Arab women orchestra for the Forbes International Women’s Day Gala honoring world leaders Hillary Rodham Clinton, Gloria Steinem, Malala Yousafzai, Billie Jean King, and Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska.
As a production company, the Sinfonietta has partnered with brands such as Bloomingdale’s, MAC Cosmetics, and The Atlantic Magazine to create original commissioned content. The Sinfonietta’s management division has worked with clients such as Louis Vuitton and the United Nations. Since inception, the Sinfonietta has been featured in outlets such as NBC, CBS, Rolling Stone, BuzzFeed, Forbes, TIME, TeenVogue, Elle Magazine, The Washington Post, The Today Show, and more.
As a headlining artist, the Sinfonietta made its live full orchestra debut concert presented by Carnegie Halland signed with Sony Masterworks to develop and release recordings of Schmidt's pop orchestra arrangements.
Fresh off the heels of a 70+ city nationwide tour, the Sinfonietta’s reach and impact has grown exponentially, now encompassing both a production arm (Sinfonietta Productions), as well as a management arm (Sinfonietta Creative Management), which provides representation and advocacy for women musicians across the industry as a whole.
